Understand the Labour Basics

If you’ve never given birth before, you may assume that you’ll just “know” when the time has arrived to have your baby. In reality, onset of true labor isn’t always easy to identify, and events leading up it can drag on for days. Remember, too, that your due date is simply a point of reference. Read here 5 simple signs to recognize true labour:

• You feel lighten: This happens when your baby’s head “drops” down into your pelvis. Your belly will suddenly look lower and you’ll have an easier time catching breath than in prior months. For first-time mothers, lightening usually occurs a few weeks before birth.
• If you have blood-tinged or brownish vaginal discharge, it is a good sign to expect labour as this happen when your cervix has dilated enough to expel the mucus plug that sealed it for the last nine months.
• When your baby gets less active, it means labour is about to kick in.
• When your amniotic sac ruptures and watery fluid leak from your vagina in a trickle or a gush. Let your caregiver know as soon as you think your water has broken as contractions follow shortly thereafter.
• You get diarrhea: If you feel a frequent urge to empty your bowels and your stools are looser than normal, labor may be imminent

Delivery and you
Delivery is a time of emotional highs and lows. Also there’s no way to tell for certain when it is going to happen, in 20 minutes or in 23 hours so it is good to stay surrounded with your people.
Just think of the end result which is worth all of it and go with your gut instincts as it is your body and certainly you will get through it to cuddle your bundle of joy.
