Care For Your Hair
Skin concerns
Dr Charulata Bose, consultant dermatologist with Artemis answers your queries
I am 22-year-old girl. Since my childhood I’ve been suffering from skin problems. I have hyper pigmentation around my neck, thighs and under arms. I’m quite fat and also fair. Because of this the dis-coloured spots may be seen prominently on my body. Also I have stretch marks in various parts of my body. Now I am fed up with such problems. Please suggest what should I do to get rid of both the conditions?
Ans: The solution to your problem will be first and foremost to lose weight. This problem of hyper pigmentation is called acanthosis nigrican and is known to increase with obesity. As you are fair, this becomes more visible. There are creams, lotions as well as some deep peels etc. available which would lighten them to an extent, but usually these are deep pigmentation and will not go away completely. Stretch marks also do not fade totally, but they can be lightened with peels.
I am 38-year-old housewife. I am having many open pores on my face. How do these occur and what is the permanent solution for it? Is this naturally occurring problem or is it due to pollution? Kindly help me to cope with the open pores.
Ans: Open pores are usually associated with oily skin. They are also seen when, one starts aging as a result of diminishing collagen, which results in loss of elasticity and tone of the skin. It is not due to pollution. You can control these by regular toning and some salicylic peeling which is meant for oily, acne prone and open pores too.
