Be Nail Perfect

manicure_01_0081Eyes sparkling, lips pouted, cheeks blushing and hair perfect ………what about your hands? Working hard incessantly, they also deserve the same care and pampering. Your nails need to be taken care of too. With inputs from Bharti Taneja, Alps Cosmetic Clinic Ltd, Minoo Verma tells you how to have a perfect spa experience at home .

A good manicure  is the best way to moisturize, nourish and protect our nails. This beauty treatment not only cleans, shapes, strengthens and dresses your nails but tends to avoid any skin problems around the nail, such as broken or sore skin, as well.

Hand massage enhances blood circulation, suppleness and proper movement of the hand and feet, while oils, creams and exfoliators, cleanse, nourish and improve the texture of the skin and nails. Regular hand and foot treatment not only gives a beautiful appearance, but also relaxes and soothes them. This beauty regime does not necessarily entail weekly visits to the nail salon. You can give yourself a real treat and luxuriate with the relaxing nail treatment in the comfort of your home. All you need is a few simple tools and knowledge of the procedure

Tools required for Manicure:

  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Ammonia
  • Nail Paint Remover
  • Cuticle scissor
  • Cuticle cutter
  • Cuticle cream
  • Cuticle pusher
  • Nail filer
  • Nail cutter
  • Dettol
  • Cotton
  • Turmeric cream
  • Wooden scrubber
  • Pumice stone
  • Manicure bowl
  • Medium size towel

Procedure for Manicure:

Start by removing the old nail paint with a good nail paint remover. Cut and file your nails. Take a nail file or an emery board and use the rough surface to shape the nails. Do it gently and carefully so as not to file down the edges too steeply. Do not file your nails in a saw-like motion. File in one direction only, from the outer edge of the nail towards the center and give them a shape that complements your fingers and hands. Use the other side to smoothen out the ragged edges. Apply cuticle cream around your nails.

Arrange a manicure bowl. Pour a few drops of hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, mild shampoo and dettol in lukewarm water. Soak your hands in water for 5 to 7 minutes.  Arnica Essentielle

Very softly rub your dead skin out with pumice stone. Rub in a circular motion. Now massage cuticle cream around your nails. With a cuticle pusher, push back the cuticles and the dead skin around your nails. Orangewood cuticle pushers are the best. Use cuticle scissor or cuticle cutter to cut the extra skin around the nails.

Rub wooden scrubber on palm area so that it removes the dead skin. Clean your hands with plain water. Massage your hands with any moisturizer or turmeric cream.

Now wrap hot towel on your hands for a few minutes. Clean your nails from inside with a nail cleaner and apply a shining coat or nail paint.

Ever thought of having a pedicure and a nail art party with your friends? Not a bad idea………

For a healthy looking hand and feet one should undergo this beauty therapy every 15 or 20 days to avoid any kind of infection and for a well-groomed look. There is no particular age to maintain your hands and feet. Even the teenagers can go for it. But it becomes a must once you start moving out as dirt, dust and pollution can make your skin hard and cracks start appearing.

Tips:

  • Before sleeping clean your hands and feet properly with lukewarm water and apply any turmeric or antiseptic cream to avoid cracks.
  • Do not bite your nails.
  • Do not mistake them for tools. They are your body parts, do not handle them rough.
