Sleep like a baby

While most of us spend an occasional night counting sheep, there are many who have trouble falling asleep. Inability to sleep on a regular basis night after night is insomnia. Foods high in amino acid tryptophan, like bananas, figs, honey, milk and nuts promote sleep. Hence almost all remedies on insomnia feature these food items.

1. Drink warm milk sweetened with honey before bed time.

2. Eat bottle-gourd (ghiya) vegetable as it cures insomnia. Rub your scalp everyday with sesame oil containing one tablespoon bottle gourd juice. This is another easy and effective home remedy for insomnia.

3. Rub one tablespoon of curd on forehead. This will bring good sleep.

4. Prepare a tea using one teaspoon honey, half tablespoon aniseed, and milk. Drink this herbal tea at night before going to sleep. This is very common natural remedy for curing insomnia.

5. Take a long hot bath a couple of hours before bedtime helps to ease the tensions of the day and completely relax the body before bed. Adding 1 to 2 cups of Epsom salts to the bath will increase the effectiveness of the remedy.

6. Stress and sleep do not gel well. Keep worries at bay with meditation and breathing exercises.

7. Aroma oils like lavender and chamomile can help you relax and fall asleep.
