Home Remedies for Blocked Sinuses

sinus painChange of weather results in throbbing sinus headaches for many people resulting from sinusitis. Sinusitis is an infection of the paranasal sinuses that occur due to obstruction or bacterial growth. Among the many causes of such obstruction or congestion are common cold, allergies, certain medical conditions, and abnormalities in the nasal passages.

Home Remedies to drain your sinuses—

1. Try inhaling steam to loosen the clogged mucous in your sinuses. You can also add drops of eucalyptus oil in the steaming hot water for faster relief.

2. Drink plenty of fluids and take rest to ease the discomforts of common cold. Water is the best fluid and helps lubricate the mucous membranes.

3. Hot soups can end congested sinuses. Make fresh home made soups with ample ginger, garlic and pepper in it to clear up clogged sinuses.

4. If you can tolerate then try eating pepper as it helps drain mucous from your sinuses.

5. An effective way to clear up the mucous is to try nasal irrigation. In a warm glass of water add a pinch of salt and try squirting it in your nose with an empty syringe, or a netipot. The water will drain out from the other nostril and along with the debris accumulated in your sinus.

6. Try a hot water foot bath with mustard powder in it and put a cold compress on your face over your forehead to open up blocked sinus.

7. You can also try squirting a drop of mustard oil in your nostril to get relief from sinusitis, but this remedy stings a lot. If you can’t bear the sting then try squirting a drop of warm ghee made of cow’s milk or almond oil to keep sinuses free-flowing.

8. Rub warm ghee with Vicks Vaporub on the back and chest of the affected person and try giving some heat therapy for instant relief. You can make a heating pad by stuffing old socks with Bishop’s weed seeds and heat it in microwave. Apply the warmth on your chest and wear a jacket over it to seal the warmth. Stay snug in a comforter after this treatment. It works like charm.
