Party Smart

party_people

This is the time to party. With mercury heading south, Christmas and New Year revelries have come closer. And a good party is one where booze flows uninterrupted and you hog on food as if there is no tomorrow. The diet plan on which you stuck religiously through out the year goes out of the window. The recipe is just right if you wish to greet the New Year in a drunken stupor with a bloated feeling. We have brought together smart tips to tide over these woes. Read ahead and implement.

Smart drinking tips

Looks like men can’t have enough of booze in a party, more so if it’s on the house. No wonder, the next day they are left nursing splitting headaches with feet that seem to wobble each time they stand. This year armed with smart tips you can avoid the morning after syndrome—

 Only 20% of the alcohol you swallow is absorbed by the stomach. The majority seeps into the bloodstream from the small intestine, the piece of bowel directly below the stomach. Separating the two is a trapdoor called the pyloric valve which can hold the key to how quickly you get drunk. The trick is to trap alcohol in the stomach by closing the pyloric valve for moderating the intoxicating effect.

 Alcohol goes well with appetizers—high fat and protein snacks, like pizza slices. A high fat food like pizza closes the pyloric valve which traps alcohol in the stomach, where it will metabolise slowly as a result you will not get drunk faster.

 Avoid mixing your drinks with fizzy drinks. The bubbles in fizzy drinks open the pyloric valve thus sending alcohol directly to the body part that absorbs it the best, your blood.

Getting over hangover

There is no shortcut to tide over hangover. Alcohol will metabolise at its own pace in the body and irrespective of your belief a black coffee or a cold shower is not going to freshen you up to face the day.

 Before you go to bed, drink at least half a litre of water and some orange juice – vitamin C speeds up the metabolism of alcohol by the liver. Eat some toast, too -  lack of sugar is responsible for that wobbly trembling feeling and it will help to settle your stomach too. A sports drink is a convenient alternative.

 The next day have a breakfast of eggs with sunny side up. Eggs are packed with cysteine, which is said to mop up the destructive chemicals that build up in the liver when it’s metabolising alcohol.

 Over-the-counter antacids will protect your stomach lining and ease acid indigestion. Meanwhile, a couple of paracetamol should quell that brain-splitting headache.

Most importantly, do not drink and drive. Team with a friend while partying who will stay sober or hire a cab to go home.
