Sip Your Way to Good Health

pic_juice Sixty-year-old Amol Seth takes two shots of Amla juice in the morning and evening to keep his immune system in good shape during the change of seasons and his teenage granddaughter is having Aloe Vera juice every morning, on an empty stomach to boost her metabolism so that she could get in shape faster. Though, these two people belong to two different eras, they are relying on the goodness of herbal juices as health supplements.

Rewind back three to four years in the time machine and wheat grass juice was running almost alone in the arena of juice supplements with a bit of competition offered by Aloe Vera. However, the scenario has changed completely now and the consumer has several herbal juices to pick from. Shachi Sohal, Chief Dietician with BLK Hospital says, “Many people come to me enquiring about the therapeutic properties of herbal juices like Noni and Aloe Vera.” Since we are in the trade we can tell you exactly how hot the market for juices is?

Juice it up

People buy herbal juices for different conditions and with different reasons.

Manage lifestyle diseases— Along with conventional medicines, herbal juices are used to manage blood sugar levels and high blood pressure. Juices extracted from Jamun and Karela are used to manage blood sugar levels. Karela contains a host of bitter chemicals which are hypoglycemic in action. It also has substance that is like the insulin secreted by the human pancreatic glands. Hence, karela is extremely effective in the treatment of diabetes. “Regular use of karela over a period of time helps to bring the blood glucose level down,” informs Sohal. Bottle gourd juice is used to rein in high blood pressure.

Rejuvenate health—Noni juice increases energy level. It contains components that are important for skin and hair. It also supports the immune systems, builds natural ability to fight disease and infection. “Patients of fibromylagia report renewed energy after using Noni juice,” says Dr Deepti Dhara, Delhi based Ayurveda doctor.

Enhance immunity—Amla juice strengthens immune system. In fact, Vitamin C is a super antioxidant and Amla is a super rich source of Vitamin C. Now, you know what to drink when you have to thwart seasonal flu and cold.

Revitalize skin—Aloe Vera has healing properties and is used as detoxifier. Combined with a fitness program, it boosts your metabolism and helps lose weight faster.

Whatever may be the reason, to get a bottle home, the juices do offer respite from ailments and earn ‘word-of-mouth’ publicity, which gets more people flocking to the store.
