Orange Time
How can anyone not like an orange! This fruit is a visual delight and has a tangy flavour. Orange supplies with 80 fat free calories, and is packed with energy fuelling carbohydrates. Enriched with potassium, folate, thiamin, vitamin B6, niacin, riboflavin and magnesium, orange juice in its derived from fruit version, forms a quick and healthy snack.
An antioxidant
Orange juice contains more than 60 phytonutrients that are known for its disease fighting properties. Orange has phytochemicals—potent antioxidants that help us fight age related degenerative diseases.
The C factor
Orange supplies with a healthy dose of vitamin C. Vitamin C helps in healing of wounds, keeps muscles and gums in good shape and helps our body resists infections.
Tangy taste
Orange has an agreeable taste. Have it when you are suffering from loss of appetite.
Drink for your heart
Oranges contain water-soluble fiber called pectin. Studies show that pectin helps reduce blood cholesterol levels. This may explain why individuals who eat several servings daily of fruits, such as oranges, and vegetables have a lower risk for heart disease.
Orange juice in its not from concentrate version, is good for heart health. Research studies say that drinking orange juice daily increases HDL—good cholesterol levels. Orange juice is enriched with folate. Low levels of folate and higher levels of homocysteine often go together. Elevated homocysteine levels—an amino acid, pose risk to cardiovascular health.
Zaps acne
For eliminating pimples and acne use orange peel. Dry peel in the shade. Grind it in a fine powder and use it in the company of honey and lemon juice on your face.
Healthy Blood Pressure
Orange is rich in potassium and low on sodium. US Food and Drug Administration says foods that are good sources of potassium reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke. Thus it is effective in high blood pressure–hypertension management. High blood pressure is often called a “silent killer” because it can develop without any warning signs.
This winter peel an orange and enjoy the benefits it has neatly tucked inside.
