Magical Methi

Methi or fenugreek enters our kitchen in two incarnations. In its leafy version it sneaks in dough, accompanies humble potato, and whips culinary delights. The dried leaves add flavour and aroma to the spicy dishes. Fenugreek seeds add a pungent taste to seasonings. Along with Omega-3 fatty acids, methi leaves are also loaded with folate, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, riboflavin, magnesium, iron and potassium and lots of dietary fibre.

Digestive Disorders

For digestive disorders trust fenugreek. Fenugreek leaves are highly beneficial in the treatment of indigestion, flatulence and sluggish liver. They help in the healing of mouth ulcers. An infusion of the leaves is used as a gargle for recurrent ulcers.

Anemia

Fenugreek leaves are extremely useful for adolescent girls to prevent anemia that usually accompanies puberty. Fenugreek seeds too help fight anemia.

Beauty aid

Apply paste of fresh fenugreek leaves every night and allow it to rest for a while before washing it off. This paste will prevent pimples, improve complexion and early appearance of wrinkles.

Dandruff

Fenugreek seeds can help you banish dandruff this winter. Soak fenugreek seeds in water and prepare a paste. Apply that paste on your head and allow it to stay for an hour before you shampoo your hairs with a mild shampoo.

Detoxification

For detoxifying your body have a tea made with fenugreek seeds in the morning. Add honey and lemon juice to enhance taste.

Lactating mothers

Fenugreek seeds are useful for lactating mothers.

Respiratory Infection

During the early acute stages of any of the respiratory tract infections, such as bronchitis, influenza, sinusitis, and suspected pneumonia, fenugreek tea will help the body to pro­duce perspiration, dispel toxicity and shorten the period of fever.

Sore Throat

The gargle made from fenugreek seeds is the best for ordinary sore throat. Put two tablespoonfuls of fenugreek seeds in half a litre of water and allow it to simmer for half an hour over a low flame. It should be allowed to cool to a bearable temperature. It should then be strained and entire quantity used as a gargle.

Bad breath and Body odour

The tea made from fenugreek is also beneficial in the case of bad breath and body odour.

Diabetes

Research studies have proved that fenugreek seeds are effective in treating diabetes.

Swellings

Fenugreek leaves have cooling properties. Apply a poultice in case of swellings and burns to earn relief.

In winter fenugreek greens are in abundance. Happy munching!
