Guava–Common Man’s Fruit

guavaGuava doesn’t have the glamour of strawberry, warmly appealing looks of orange or have health books singing praises like apples; yet, this common man’s fruit is packed with nutrients. It gives you more value for money and more nutrition as compared to other fruits. Find it hard to believe then read on—

100 grams of guava gives you more than twice potassium as compared to apples, four times more vitamin C than oranges for the same amount and yet, it is not considered a super star fruit. Strange, isn’t it?

Why should you munch on guava?

1. Eat guava for hassle free mornings. Fibre content in guava is well-known to nudge your bowels and even chronic constipation yields way to guava. And, when you earn relief from constipation toxins decrease in your body. As an additional bonus the high fibre content of guavas help you in lowering cholesterol.

3. For bad breath caused by gum disease, guava is a treatment option. Eating the fruit stops bleeding in the gums and strengthens your teeth. It also destroys bacteria residing in the gums. Apart from the fruit, chewing the young leaves of the guava tree also stops gums from bleeding.

4. For diarrhoea boil tender guava leaves and filter it, drink it, it works like magic.

5. Guava is an excellent source of lycopene which is found in cooked tomatoes. This nutritional ingredient helps men keep prostate problems at bay.

6. One of the home remedies for diabetes is to boil a handful of crushed guava leaves and 3 grams of cumin together. Boil with one glass of water and make it half and sip on it.

Note: Since guava is a hard fruit, it’s advisable to cut it in pieces before you chew it. Add some rock salt to it and bloating will disappear.
