B for Banana

bananaCreamy, rich and sweet banana, wrapped in biodegradable wrapper from nature, banana is a huge favourite with adults and children. Whoever termed banana as common man’s fruit was ignorant of the nutritional advantages of it? Though banana doesn’t have proverbs indicating its virtues like apples, but who cares as long as there is a whole country named after you—Banana Republic. And, then the fruit itself is an epitome in multitasking that can help you rein in high blood pressure, nudge bowels, build bones and soothe hyperacidity and improve eye sight all at the same time.
Impressed! Well, looks can be deceptive and this is the case with banana.

• Banana is a good source of potassium, nature’s un-salt. Potassium is important for the human body as it helps keep the body fluids and electrolyte balance in body cells and helps in regulating blood pressure. Higher levels of potassium in the body can reduce the possibility of a stroke. Being rich in potassium it finds favour with athletes as well.

• Bananas are a good source of vitamins and minerals. All important vitamins, like A, B and C are found in banana. Vitamin A is essential for the development of the specialized tissue in the eyes. It is also important for the growth of skin and soft skeletal tissue. Vitamin B is present in the form of Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacin and Folic acid. Vitamin B is essential for energy production and vitamin C helps build immunity. Besides, this fruit helps ward off anaemia, as it is a rich source of iron.

• The high fibre content of bananas makes it an ideal fruit for people suffering from constipation.
• Bananas contain an amino acid called tryptophan. Tryptophan is converted by the body into serotonin, which relaxes a person and helps in improving one’s mood.
• Bananas are considered to be a natural solution to hangovers. A banana milkshake mixed with honey will help to calm the stomach and build up depleted blood sugar levels at the same time.
• Bananas can act as a natural antacid. This gives relief to a person who is suffering from heartburn.
• The inside of the banana skin when rubbed on a mosquito bite is found to reduce the swelling and irritation.
• Bananas are an ideal diet for people who are trying to quit smoking. This is because of the combination of Vitamin C, A1, B6, and B12 that helps the body to recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.
