Foolproof Guide to Party Hard

partyWhen every day feels like Friday, everyone’s scheduler is filled with parties and gatherings –it’s a real challenge for the health conscious. But that does not mean you have to deprive yourself of the treat. Simply follow our game plan and kick off the party season.

Yeah. We all know it’s simple. Eat less, exercise more, and all those extra pounds will disappear. But how to resist those cupcakes, luscious drinks and lavish dinner?

Winter – a season synonymous with night long parties, drinking and swinging to your favorite tunes, weddings, gift giving and last but not the least- binging. We usually forget our dietary and exercise routine and our health goes for a toss. We need to keep reiterating that ‘health is wealth’ Here are some tips to party healthy and hearty this winter.

Indulge but don’t overindulge
Do justice to yourself. You are out for a party so go ahead and eat a variety of food.
Fill up your platter with more of fruits, salads and vegetables, and then head for assorted chips and fried concoctions. Fix your plate and move away from the table as soon as possible. Savor each and every bite. By eating slowly you will end up eating less.

Booze moderately, eat smartly and snack wisely
Focus on diet beverages. Hot n steaming soup or lemon soda are healthier options. If you are a hard drink lover, switch over to wine (especially red wine) as it’s a healthy drink. Research has supported time and again the impressive antioxidant boost that wine gives. But if must have other alcohol then keep control over your self and do not exceed your limits. Two units everyday is considered healthy. But it does not mean you do not drink all six days and have 7 pegs on the seventh. That’s binging and it’s bad. .

If there is a choice pick baked over fried, prefer to have missi or tandoori roti to nan or paratha and grab wine instead of whisky.

Alcohol goes well with appetizers Make sure you don’t drink on an empty stomach – have a light meal before drinking, eat something that contains a little oil or fat such as nuts or a pizza as it will help slow the rate at which your body absorbs the alcohol. —High fat and protein snacks close the pyloric valve which traps alcohol in the stomach, where it will metabolize slowly and as a result you will not get drunk faster. Try and dilute drinks with sparkling water or alternate alcohol with a glass of water .Go for diet soda than a regular one. Avoid mixing your drinks with fizzy drinks. The bubbles in fizzy drinks open the pyloric valve thus sending alcohol directly to the body part that absorbs it the best, your blood.

Tide over hangover
Before you go to bed, drink at least half a litre of water and some orange juice – vitamin C speeds up the metabolism of alcohol by the liver. Eat some toast too – lack of sugar is responsible for that wobbly trembling feeling and it will help to settle your stomach too. A sports drink is a convenient alternative.

The next day have a breakfast of eggs with sunny side up. Eggs are packed with cysteine, which is said to mop up the destructive chemicals that build up in the liver when it’s metabolising alcohol.

Over-the-counter antacids will protect your stomach lining and ease acid indigestion. Meanwhile, a couple of paracetamol should quell that brain-splitting headache.

Cleanse yourself
Our appetite sky rockets in winter and we feel hungrier than usual. Mouth watering party foods are high cal and contain lot of oil, salt and sugar. After eating such rich food its but natural to wake up feeling sluggish the next morning due to the toxins build up in the body. We have a solution. Have a glass of lukewarm lemon water in the morning.

On other days have healthy herbal drinks. Herbal drinks are full of antioxidants and enriching. These include chamomile, jasmine, green tea, hibiscus, etc. These help flush out the toxins from the body and de-bloat you.

Do not let the chill hibernate you. Be up and about. Take exercise religiously to remain supercharged and party hard.
