How can working ladies get fit?

executive-health1

Fitness means different things to different people. Hence, for a concept that has different dimensions, there can be no clear cut steps to achieve, because one size just doesn’t fit all.

Right now we are talking about  the fitness schedule of women executives.

No prizes to guess, ladies under this category undergo a lot of stress. There is work-related pressure along with the family responsibilities that demand attention. In this scenario squeezing time for fitness sounds so unreal, but is very much needed to stay focused and energetic.

Five steps to fitness

  1. Like with any other activity, you have to enjoy it to do it consistently. The rule implies on fitness as well. Many women take the route of evening stroll in the park to achieve their fitness goals. Purbi Jaiswal, HR Manager with a software company says, “By the time we reach home, there is hardly any time left for the leisurely stroll. I have enrolled in Salsa classes and twice a week I and my husband dance with abandon to achieve our fitness goals.” On the plus side we have been able to reignite the spark back in our marriage, which generally begins to wane with time in married life.
  2. Middle aged working lady Veena was bothered about the losing stamina and she started taking up taek-won-do classes to kick start her fitness regime.
  3. Some of us are shy by nature and are resistant to try new things. Still, we can find ways to stick to our fitness goals. Tanisha, VP, Operations in a retail chain keeps her sneakers in the car and gets down two to three kilometers before her home. The driver gets the car home and she does a brisk walk to get there. “Once you reach home, there are so many priorities to be taken care of that there is just no time for exercise,” reasons she.
  4. Some women just can’t exercise alone. They need company. For them the best way is to join a gym. If you have a gym at office, use it for advancing your fitness goals.
  5. There are some like Uma Dutta who belong to the old school and want to finish with their fitness commitments first thing in the morning. Ideally, it’s the best way to do if you can. “I start my mornings with a warm glass of lemon water and do some yoga and meditation exercises for half an hour before I start anything else. This helps me handle the stresses of the day in a better way,” says she.

“Eat a large breakfast and try to resist the temptation to munch on something all the time. If you get bored, distract your mind on some active work and avoid opening a chips packet or a bar of chocolate rather carry some fresh fruits or dry fruits to the office. Instead of caffeinated drinks, take fresh fruit juice and if you cannot then plain water is best to quench your thirst. Break your meals down so that you are eating several times a day. Walk a few steps every half an hour, if you are having a sedentary job. Instead of elevators take the stairs.”- Ms. Nisha Varma, Reebok Fitness Trainer.
