Do You Know Your BMI

BMIBody mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women. To calculate BMI divide height in feet by weight in pounds (1 kg= 2.2 pounds)
 Classification of BMI: [ adopted by the National Institute of Health and World Health Organization for whites, hispanics and blacks]

Underweight — BMI <18. 5 kg/m2
Normal weight — BMI =18.5 to 24.9 kg/m2
Overweight — BMI =25.0 to 29.9 kg/m2
Class I obesity — BMI of 30.0 to 34.9 kg/m2
Class II obesity — BMI of 35.0 to 39.9 kg/m2
Class III obesity — BMI =40 kg/m2. This type of obesity is also referred to as severe, extreme, or morbid obesity.

For Asians
Underweight — BMI <18. 5 kg/m2
Normal weight — BMI =18.5 to 22.9 kg/m2
Overweight — BMI =23.0 to 29.9 kg/m2
Class I obesity — BMI of 30.0 to 34.9 kg/m2
Class II obesity — BMI of 35.0 to 39.9 kg/m2
Class III obesity — BMI =40 kg/m2. This type of obesity is also referred to as severe, extreme, or morbid obesity
