Ayurveda

unani1

In this age and time when everyone looks for quick fixes, mostly made available in the conventional medicine, there are some who depart from the treaded path. Disappointed with Allopathy, they decide to go back to our indigenous system of healing, known as Ayurveda. As a result cures emerge to conditions to which modern medicine is clueless and healing happens inside out. Archana Darshan writes more—

19 years old Mridul Sharma was suffering from psoriasis and had lost all hopes with the conventional medical system. When Dr. Preeti Chabbra, Ayurveda expert at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital saw him for the first time his whole body from the root of his hair to the nail of his toe was covered with fish-like scales. But the boy got natural skin back with Ayurvedic therapy and has to visit Dr Chabbra every six months for repeat check-ups and treatments because psoriasis is an autoimmune condition.

Delhi based Rani Brar was deeply concerned about her dad’ s losing battle with Alzheimer’s—a serious form of dementia—or memory loss. Fortunately the disease got diagnosed at an early stage and she met Dr V.D Harsh, Dehradun based Ayurveda doctor. “With herbal therapy my dad is doing pretty well for the last four years,” said she, when My Health Guardian contacted her.

Dr Harsh said, “Ayurveda is a holistic science which takes mind, body and soul into account when it talks of cure. It is about reaching to the roots of an ailment and works towards the permanent elimination of the ailment from the body.” This system of holistic healing is about improving one’s lifestyle. Besides, the herbal treatment makes your immune system stronger and your body healthier.

Basic dosha

“Yes, we all have a basic dosha which decides our body type. There are 3 body types according to 3 doshas—vata, pitta and kapha,” informed Dr Harsh.

Human body is a working unit of all the three doshas and these doshas predispose us to certain ailments. But these doshas are interrelated and interdependent and disturbance in one dosha will affect another. If not treated the humor will slowly vitiate and disease will go from bad to worse.

“If you are a vata type you will get neurological disorders and arthritic problems. Pitta types will be prone to heat conditions, migraines, irritable bowel syndromes, hypertension, hyperacidity and skin disorders. Disorders related to congestion like asthma, weight gain and edema will afflict kapha type more,” informed Dr Harsh.

“Ayurveda is back with a bang”, said Dr Chabbra. “Everyday I get to see almost 50-60 patients.” “Mostly patients suffering from lifestyle ailments, like diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, hormonal disturbances, migraines come to us,” said Dr Deepti Dhara, Ayurveda expert at Tulsi Holistic Healing.

As a norm patients who come to us are Allopathy rejects. By the time they approach us disease has already advanced, hence it needs prolonged treatment. “To be honest they would recuperate faster, had they approached us earlier,” rued Dr Dhara.
