Colours of Wellness

WHAT’S HOLI WITHOUT COLOURS? The same applies to life. There is more to colour than meets the eye. Would you believe colours can help heal ailments and even dissolve past karma? Well, continue reading to get answers….
Seema Midha, a well known tarot card reader has also dabbled in colour therapy. She says, “There are seven chakras in our body and each colour in the colour spectrum of VIBGYOR corresponds to a chakra. This is how colours influence us. ” Reiki master Asha Goyal agrees to it.

VIOLET: Crown Chakra, which is at the top of the head. Related to this chakra are brain and pineal gland, which secretes melatonin Use of violet colour can help calm stressed people and help you sleep well. People who are suffering from depression should avoid it. Use violet in excess and you become egoistic
INDIGO Brow chakra, which is in the centre of your forehead, related organs are eyes, lower head and sinuses and it correlates to pituitary gland Soothing colour and helps create awareness of your intuitive faculties Avoid using it in the family area
BLUE Throat chakra and associated organs are endocrine gland and thyroid Colour of communication Too much blue makes you cold, avoid in recreational areas
GREEN:  Heart chakra and associated organs to this chakra are heart and thymus Colour of harmony and is used during times of stress. No wonder, operation theatres have green curtains Too much of green makes you green with envy
YELLOW: Solar plexus chakra, situated below the ribs. This chakra corresponds to liver, spleen, stomach and small intestine. The endocrine gland is the pancreas.
Yellow is the colour of intellect and use it in study where concentration is required.
Use it in excess and you suffer from paralysis of analysis
ORANGE: Sacral chakra situated in the lower abdomen, which relates to uterus, large bowel, prostate, ovaries and testes. On the psycho-spiritual level, this chakra relates to self respect. Vibrant colour, good for creativity Avoid in your bedroom
RED: Base chakra and is situated at the base of spin Excites and energises us, removes toxins and gives courage Avoid in hypertensives and in the bedroom

Apart from wearing colours, you can paint them on your walls; use them in the drapes and sheets to get the maximum advantage of colour therapy. But, there is a twist in the plot. You can even drink and inhale colours. It is an age-old therapy, codified in the Atharva Veda, ancient Indian scripture, as Surya Kiran Chikitsa—healing with the sun’s rays. The therapy is making its comeback as chromatherapy.

How to colour charge water?

• Take a clean colored glass bottle or wrap a coloured cellophane on a transparent bottle.
• Keep the bottle in sunlight.
• Fill three quarters of the bottle with water.
• Put a cork to stop dust from getting in.
• Clean the bottle at least once in a day.
• Don’t let the cellophane fade.

Water takes six to eight hours to get charged. For emergency, you can charge water for about two hours, but only in the morning sun. You can not only drink but also breathe color. Just put the required colored bottle out in the sun for a couple of hours and then inhale the air within the bottle.
In his book Surya Chikitsa, Dr M.L. Kathotia notes that colors can resolve your past karma. The seven chakras of our body are centers of different karma, and the negative karma can be taken care of by proper color visualization.
If you are feeling too jittery and are not able to cope, begin your day with green colour charged water. Blue colour charged water heals diseases of the throat. Red colour water energises you and is effective for weight loss too.
However, like all alternate therapies, meet with a practitioner before you try it out.
