Colour colour which colour do you choose?

colour-therapyAs a child Seema Midha was fascinated with vibrant colours. As she grew her fascination matured too, and moved towards pastel hues. “Colours always attracted me, so much so that I delved in colour therapy to understand the profound effects of colours on lives of human beings,” says Seema. It goes without saying that colours dominate our lives. It’s hard to deny the mood uplifting and calming effects of colours on us. When we are happy we naturally gravitate towards warm colours like yellow, red and orange, still cynicism prevails when we ponder that colours can have profound effects on our well being.

Seema explains, “When we are happy we naturally gravitate towards warm colours like yellow, red and orange. Colours balance chakras in your body. There are seven chakras in our body and each colour in the colour spectrum of VIBGYOR corresponds to a chakra. This is how colours influence us. ” Reiki practitioner Asha Goyal agrees to this.

“Whenever a disease surfaces in the body a corresponding chakra gets out of sync, in reiki we balance this through cosmic energy and in colour therapy this is done through the restorative effects of sun rays,” elaborates she.

Dr Preeti Chhabra, consultant Ayurveda at Ganga Ram Hospital says, “There is not much mention of colour therapy in Ayurveda. However Tridoshas may exhibit hues of varied colours in accordance with their panchbhautic constitution. Vata may be linked to black, blue; pitta with red , orange, yellow and kapha with white and pale yellow.”

The top three colours of the colour spectrum have restorative and calming effects on your body, whereas the bottom three colours are warm shades and green acts as a balancing point in this colour spectrum.
